Located in the centre at one of the special canals (the only one in Amsterdam to still have 2 wooden drawbridges) around the islands known as Westelijke Eilanden: Prinseneiland, Bickerseiland and Realeneiland.
At walking distance you find convivial restaurants (De Gouden Reael, Bickers a/d Werf), a petting zoo, good schools and a playground. In close proximity there is the convivial Jordaan, Haarlemmerdijk, Centraal Station and Noordermarkt.
Realeneiland, formerly Achtereiland, was named after the Reael family, who owned land here. It is surrounded by the Zoutkeetsgracht, Westerdok, Realengracht and Smallepadsgracht and is part of the Westelijke Eilanden. Up to the end of the 19th century this contained many shipyards, small industries and warehouses. This composition is still responsible for a unique atmosphere on the islands. Boat lovers can rest easily. There are various locations for docking or putting away your boat. A unique part of Amsterdam.
