Park de Meer thanks owes name to the former stadium ‘’De Meer’’, where football club Ajax used to play their home games before they moved in 1996 to The Arena. The memories of these great days are being kept alive by the car-free zones and within this neighbourhood you can find several spots which refer to the glorious old days. The neighbourhood does have more to offer than only former Ajax-area, for example the Jaap Eden Iceskating track. But most of the space is filled with green facilities, including the sport fields.
