Description

***** English text *****

Unique property for sale. A whole and undivided canal house from 1680 on the Kloveniersburgwal, Amsterdam Centre. This National Monument is a freehold property with a residential and business destination and therefore multi-purpose. It can be used as home / commercial purposes and is also very suitable to run a Bed & Breakfast. The property will be delivered free of use.

Together with its neighbor house this property was restored in 1995-1997 and with the repositioning of a new façade, this authentic canal house has been restored into original condition. The monumental ornaments on the first floor and in the back have been renovated and restored in collaboration with Monumentenzorg. The back house roof has been renewed in 2004 and the roof terrace was at the time constructed with permission. Intense use has led to wear and tear and refurnishment is needed.

Location:

The Kloveniersburgwal is an ancient city wall of medieval Amsterdam. During the urban expansion of the 17th century the canal houses were built on top of the old wall. On this broad canal one finds the Trippenhuis the Oudemanshuis poort and many other monumental buildings. Located around the corner are the Nieuwmarkt with its famous Waag, the Waterlooplein, Dam Square and the Amstel river. With unobstructed views of the recently renovated Zuiderkerk and the Raamgracht this is indeed a very unique location.

Layout:

This monumentally registered property has a original Amsterdam lay out with a front house and back house which are connected by a light stairwell. The front house has 5 floors and the backhouse 4 floors which are half a level higher. The ‘bell floor’ has 3,5 meter high ceilings with ornaments typical of the construction period. You’ll find authentic details like a marble floor, the semicircular door of the powder room (lavatory now) and monumental ornaments and stucco. On the floors there are several original fireplaces and beamed ceilings throughout. The basement has a separate entrance and is located under the ‘bell floor’.

The current lay out of two homes is based on an arrangement for two families but can easily be adapted to your own wishes. The selling agent can inform you of the possibilities.
