STREET NAME EXPLANATION:
Eva Marianna Besnyö was a Hungarian-Dutch photographer.
With two sisters she grew up in a liberal-Jewish family. When she was 18 she took a course in advertising and portrait photography from Jozsef Pécsi. He stimulated her to go to Berlin where she met the Dutch photographer John Fernhout. Fernhout, son of the painter Charley Toorop, returned to the Netherlands in 1930. Due to the rise of the Nazis Eva Besnyö decided to leave Germany and in 1932 she followed Fernhout to the Netherlands. They got married in 1933. Until World War II she did a lot of portrait photography but the photographing of architecture also had her interest. During the occupation she had to go into hiding and she became active in the resistance. In 1945 she divorced Fernhout and a year later she married the graphic designer Wim Brusse with whom she had a son and a daughter. At a high age she had to stop making photographs due to problems with her eyes. The last years of her life she lived in the Rosa Spier Huis in Laren where in 2003 she died at age 93.

MVA neighbourhood information: IJburg Zuid

Ijburg is a neighbourhood at the east side of Amsterdam, consisting of six islands. The goal for the islands is to create approximately 18.000 houses for around 45.000 people to deal with the housing shortage of Amsterdam. Ijburg is the windy and watery city, which is always changing and developing. The community is working hard to give spirit to the area and to create possibilities for the residents by opening more schools and business facilities. The Ijburg is perfect for lovers of modern architecture, lovers of water sports or lovers of boats. Also the green aspect is nearby with the new park on Diemerzeedijk or the farmlands and traditional fishing villages that are located across the water in North.
